Mike’s Thoughts On Morocco

Every guide book to every destination on the planet seems to fall back on the oldest cliche of all – “It’s a country / city / town of contrasts.” But in the case of Morocco, I have finally found a place worthy of that hackneyed phrase. On the one hand, I have never witnessed such abject poverty at close quarters, and on the other, I have seen more Maseratis during my week here, than I have in my previous 54…

Our tour to discover Morocco

Our road trip to discover Morocco all started with the Ryanair €9.99 winter sale, where I spotted an offer from Madrid to Tangier. Usually we can’t find any deals from Lanzarote so when I spotted this flight I booked it on a whim. I had always wanted to visit Marrakech, despite our close location to Morocco from the Canary Islands it’s not cheap or convenient to fly direct. Binter offer a service but I haven’t found flights under 400 euro…

Ribeira do Miño Seafood Restaurant, Madrid

We love the freshness of seafood in Madrid as the best quality fish is flown in daily from the coast, Mike fancied some fish for lunch and we discovered the most marvellous place in Chueca. Marisquería Ribeira do Miño can be found on the side street C/ Santa Brígida, we pushed open the restaurant door and a delicious waft of seafood greeted us, along with a warm welcome from one of the chefs. We walked along the length of the…

Le Dhow Restaurant Lounge Bar, Rabat

Our riad had recommended two local restaurants for our evening meal in Rabat, we opted for Le Dhow. Le Dhow is a wooden dhow boat that has been converted to offer a floating restaurant and chill out lounge moored on the waterfront of Rabat, underneath the Kasbah D’Oudayas. When we boarded we were shown to the dining room on the top deck, it was warm and cosy, out of the cool evening breeze. We were given a romantic table for…

Restaurant Alibaba, Tangier

We discovered the Restaurant Alibaba on our first walk about in Tangier. We were staying at the 4* Atlas les Almohades on the Avenue Mohammed VI and had walked along the front to the port and medina on arrival. Alibaba stood out from the other establishments in that area, it was the fabulous aroma wafting out from the restaurant that first drew our attention and we decided to eat there later that evening. The menu was split into a choice…

Cafe Restaurant Argana, Marrakech

Café Argana is a landmark building in the famous Place Jemaa el-Fna, it stands proud overlooking the busy square and is the best place to have a table view. Sadly this café had to be rebuilt after a bomb attack in 2011, which explains it’s modern facilities and high security. Having tried the street food stalls on our first evening, I wanted something special for my birthday meal on our second night. We made a reservation for a front table…
