Lanzarote is our home base, it’s a beautiful island with low rise white buildings nestled in a volcanic landscape and three holiday resorts: Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise & Playa Blanca.
The Canary Islands benefit from an all year round climate, attracting tourists 365 days of the year. In Lanzarote the hottest months tend to be July-September with an average daytime temperature of 29 °C. The trade winds are strongest in July & August, followed by April-May which can be a relief during the summer heat. With an average of 300+ days of sunshine, and 6-11 hours of sunshine per day, Lanzarote is an attractive destination for sun seekers. There’s very little rainfall, an average of 125-150mm per year generally falling between November-January. Winter daytime temperatures are in the low 20’s, warmer layers are required after sunset.
Personally, our favourite time of year is mid Sep to mid Oct when the sea temp is at it’s warmest, there’s a light breeze rather than windy and our gorgeous blue sky returns (it tends to be paler / white in the peak summer months) and we normally see some spectacular sunrises / sunsets.
Lanzarote was developed for tourism under the strict watch of César Manrique who also helped to create some of the official tourist attractions. Timanfaya National Park is a protected area and a must do to understand the history and beauty of Lanzarote. La Geria wine region which looks like a moonscape produces some world class wines. Famara known as “European Hawaii” is a mecca for surfers. Puerto del Carmen is home to the “Toughest Ironman” attracting triathletes competing for Kona slots. Scuba divers are spoilt for choice with diving locations in Mala, Puerto del Carmen & Playa Blanca. Golfer’s can play a round in Costa Teguise & Puerto del Carmen. During the winter months athletes arrive for warm weather training. There’s something for everyone on this island!
