Cruise Holidays

Our Cruise Story

For years we said “We don’t do cruising.” We were intrigued at the idea that our “hotel” could bring us and our clothes to a different destination every day, but there were some things that put us off cruising: We’re not fans of eating buffet food. We didn’t know if we’d gel with other cruisers. We’re not into the whole “dressing up” into formal clothes for a posh meal. But…..

The biggest thing for us was the whole issue of “extras.” We’d heard the stories about people spending more than the cost of the cruise on all the extras, with expensive drinks and excursions, “gratuities,” and much more. And finding your way through the myriad complications of the different tiers of “all inclusive” bar tabs, deciding which cabin to book and the like was just hard work.

We tried a few mainstream, conventional cruise lines to see if we’d got it wrong. And as we expected, we loved the joy of waking up in a new port each day and going out exploring – it was heaven! But the issues we talked about above proved to be true. We soon got bored with the buffet food, we had to keep a close eye on our spends and make sure there was enough on our cards to cover the costs we racked up. It was OK, but by no means perfect.

And then we discovered Virgin Voyages! It was almost as if the cruise line, which launched in 2020, had been listening to our conversations, and created something tailored for us. Having done several cruises with them now, we’ve met hundreds of people just like us, who wanted fantastic food, no dress codes, no hidden charges and fabulous itineraries. We’re huge fans and we always have at least one Virgin Voyage to look forward to, and at the time of writing this, we have two!

But it isn’t just Virgin. We also checked out Silversea, Regent and Seabourn. These are the “super luxury” lines. We used to think they were beyond our reach, but they’re not. They might seem more expensive, but when you factor in everything they include – often things like flights and pre cruise hotels, and always excursions, premium drinks and butler service, the difference isn’t huge. Yes, they’re a treat, but not beyond normal people like us.

How can we help?

So that’s our cruise story. Does what we’ve said sound like you? If so, we’d love to get to work for you and find the perfect cruise just for you.
