Our Experience

We stayed at the Royal Marina Suites for one night to celebrate our wedding anniversary on the 1st October 2022. There was a choice of spaces available in the car park. Diego on reception had everything ready for our arrival and after presenting our id we were escorted up to our room. We stayed in 304, a Royal Suite which had a lovely welcome message for our anniversary, a fruit platter, cava on ice and the bed decorated with flowers and chocolates.

As we entered the room the huge bathroom was immediately on our left. Furnished with a standalone bath, walk in rain shower, toilet, twin sinks and Codage Paris toiletries in small plastic bottles. Continuing forward the sizeable desk with chair was on the right and minibar, ILLY coffee machine, kettle, wardrobe (including safe) was on the left. A luxurious king sized bed was around the corner, between the bathroom and terrace, plus a comfortable sofa by the terrace doors.

Walking out onto the terrace, we liked the privacy from our neighbours and sea view to the marina, but most of all there were two comfortable sun loungers, umbrella and a table with two chairs (cushions were provided in the wardrobe). There’s plenty of sockets around the room, the ones next to the bed included USB too.

The WiFi was easy to connect to and kept our devices logged in during our stay. Air conditioning was excellent and the room chilled down quickly, especially with the black out curtains drawn. As for the television, of the 15 channels available there was 1 English language option which appeared to be documentaries. On the app function we were able to access YouTube and watched Sky News Live. We questioned this with reception on check out and was advised that an engineer was coming from Gran Canaria to fix the channels as there should be more English language options available.

The bed had one pillow each, no extras in the wardrobe, however there were cushions on the bed that could be used if you needed more height. I adored the individual fleecy blankets which gave some weight to the single bed sheet without being too hot. There was a duvet in the wardrobe for extra warmth if required. The sofa was both squishy and comfortable.

Sadly you can’t see the Los Ajaches mountains from this position which would make for a spectacular sunset view, however watching the sunrise over the marina was a lovely way to start the day. After a wonderful night’s sleep we went for breakfast.

Normally we would dine at 8am, however we had a lazy morning and arrived at 9am which coincided with several other guests. We weren’t greeted, so presumed we could choose our own table and sat down. Unsure of the procedure, we then had quick look at the cold buffet section and returned to our table. A waiter arrived offering orange juice and coffee, they then returned with the à la carte menus. Both of us ordered toasts from the menu, Mike’s was toasts with poached eggs, sautéed mushrooms, rocket & green leaves. What turned up was 2 triangles of toast, scrambled egg and a few tinned mushrooms. I ordered the toasts with a bed of sliced avocados, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon with a request for the egg to be poached not scrambled. What arrived was 2 triangles of toast a poached egg draped with smoked salmon. We questioned if this was our order, after checking with the kitchen it was, so explained that they were both wrong. The dishes were represented, Mike’s now had a poached egg which was fresh and runny but no greens. Mine was the original dish with a squirt of guacamole added, the toast was soggy and the poached egg cold with a hard yolk. There was a note on the menu that you can modify or combine any of the dishes, so I didn’t think my request to switch egg style was unusual but needles to say, neither of us enjoyed the breakfast. The cold buffet was a selection of cold meats, cheeses & fruit, plus cereals and limited pastries.

It’s not often a bath is included in modern hotels so Mike ran me a bath using what was left of the shower gel. It filled quickly and there was plenty of hot water. Thoughtfully a table was placed at the head of the bath where the tap is and a hand shower. You can’t really use this end though as the tap is in the way and we couldn’t find a way to swivel it. I sat at the other end having moved the table, although now the hand shower to rinse my hair was at the opposite end. The plug is a pressure one in the middle, if you scoot down in the bath to submerge it releases the plug and the bath starts emptying! My tip, pack some bubble bath or a bath bomb for a treat in the tub. The walk in rain shower has a massive head fixed to the ceiling, with a hand held shower on the wall. The water coverage was good, we found it a bit lacking in power if we were being picky.

On check out Michel was very helpful with our questions and was eager to know if there was anything they should consider changing / improve upon from our point of view. For us, we loved the room and location and would definitely stay here again. The one thing that had been a disappointment was the breakfast service, we didn’t raise this at the time as it’s very hard to judge based on one experience. Having observed other guests placing their orders, we would ask for the individual items and make our own toast from the crusty loaf in the buffet section.

In summary we feel the Royal Marina Suites are a very welcome addition to the adults only hotels in Lanzarote. We loved the boutique size, the quiet and relaxed ambiance with super comfortable rooms. There’s not many places on the island were you can find two comfortable sun loungers included on your terrace, not to mention a choice of bath and shower, and every room with a sea view.

Our second stay was 21st December 2022, this time we were allocated Ocean Suite 201. There was a lovely welcome back gesture waiting for us in our room. Our breakfast experience was much improved when we ordered hot items from the menu. However, the TV still lacked English speaking channels.
