The 5* Lava Beach Hotel officially opened on the 1st February 2019. It’s situated in a beachfront position in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote.

Built from scratch, rather than modernising an existing hotel, the architect was able to absorb the superb natural light found in Lanzarote, throughout the design. For example, the bathrooms in all room types feature a glass panel in the wall which allows daylight into the interior. The toilet is an enclosed cubicle for more privacy.

We visited the Lava Beach hotel during the Easter holidays. Despite a time of busy occupancy, there was a calm and relaxed atmosphere around the communal areas. The hotel isn’t vast, nor boutique, the Lava Beach is somewhere in the middle, with a total of 154 rooms available over 2-4 floors. The Lava Beach hotel has clean lines, modern amenities and a quiet ambience, all of which are perfect ingredients for a chilled holiday by the beach in Lanzarote. Whilst not classed as an adult only hotel, there aren’t any facilities for children at the Lava Beach.

The hotel’s location falls between Matagorda and Playa Los Pocillos. The Sol Lanzarote and Seaside Jameos Playa hotels are neighbours. Convenient for a short transfer from the airport, and within easy reach of the vibrant Puerto del Carmen holiday resort. Hotel guests have direct access to the promenade which stretches from the capital of Arrecife to Playa Grande beach in Puerto del Carmen.

As you’d expect with a 5* hotel, the staff are courteous, friendly and professional. Personal requests are easily accommodated, so your room can be personalised to your preference. For example the beds are made up as twins, however they zip together if you prefer a double. On the balcony there are two chairs, table and a sun bed. It’s not an issue if you would prefer the sun bed removed, or an additional one added.

The main pool area includes two free form fresh water swimming pools and a jacuzzi. There are plenty of sun beds, as well as Balinese beds (free of charge). Pool heating is on from the 1st November to 30th April. The larger pool has a rail with sloping steps for easy access. The lower pool has submerged beds for a chilled laze in the water. You won’t find any loud music booming around the pool, or water based activities at this hotel. The pool bar offers a sun bed service with food and snacks delivered via the press of a button. There are additional sun beds and Balinese beds on a roof top terrace and pergola area by the promenade.

Lava Beach Hotel: Room Types

Air conditioning is standard, which provides heating if required in the winter months. The smart TV doesn’t currently have many English language programmes, this is being addressed at the moment. There’s a Nespresso machine for coffee lovers, and kettle for tea drinkers. The minibar is payable and restocked daily. Bathrobes and slippers are standard in all room types, with toiletries, hairdryer and safe. The balconies are normally furnished with 2 chairs, table and a sun lounger. We loved the quirky turquoise coloured, retro style phones!

The standard double rooms are situated overlooking the pool and a great position for afternoon / evening sunshine.

The sea view double rooms have both a pool and sea view, which is more in the background than a street view. There are also some sea view rooms on the left side and lower section of the hotel, which face out towards the promenade.

The premium sea view double rooms are limited and within a separate block situated down by the promenade. These have a ground or upper floor without lift access and a direct beachfront view. The ground floor balconies are slightly larger than the upper floor.

The junior suites have a separate living area with sofa bed for an extra adult or child, these are available with pool view, or sea view. Balcony access is via both the bedroom and lounge.

The double rooms sleep a maximum of 2 people, and the junior suites a maximum of 3.

The Lava Beach hotel has 6 adapted rooms for wheelchair guests which are situated on the ground floor by the padel court & mini golf area. There are ramps for access around the grounds, and lift access in the main hotel building. For guests travelling without wheelchairs and limited mobility, the standard rooms have a walk in shower with grab rail.

There also are a few different room types, such as the 3 deluxe suites with egg style seats on the balcony and picture windows with jacuzzi, or standard rooms with a bath rather than walk in shower.

Rooms are available on bed & breakfast or half board basis.
