Summary of building work taking place in the holiday resort of Playa Blanca, Lanzarote.
Sun Park / Lava Verde
Work has started to refurbish the Sun Park Hotel in Playa Blanca. The building project was for the Hotel Lava Verde Suites & Spa, however the renovated 4* hotel is being marketed under the brand MYND Yaiza. There will be 8 blocks, 304 rooms and 3 floors with two areas, one for families and the other for adults only.
Guests at the H10 White Suites in early June 2022 have reported hearing intermittent noise from 7am to 7pm as well as dust from the site which is located next door. The architect is José Acosta Matos and Construcciones Acosta Matos S.A. are in charge of the project. Other hotels in this area which may be affected by the construction include the THB Royal and Caybeach Sun. We visited in June 2022.

New 4* Hotel Playa Blanca- Barceló Costa Papagayo
The biggest project in progress is the development of the large plot situated between the Hesperia Playa Dorada hotel and Marina Rubicón. Initially a project dated 15/02/19 was confirmed with promotor Yudaya S.L. and contractor Hermanos Tavio Santana S.L. to demolish existing structures on Parcela AB1 Plan Parcial Castillo del Águila, with an execution time of 4 months. Next, a project dated 26/02/19 was confirmed with the same promoter and constructor to construct a 4* hotel and commercial zone, with an execution time of 36 months.
This building site is the reason that the HD Pueblo Marinero adults only hotel closed, our understanding is that this abandoned hotel will be demolished and the area redeveloped. This work will affect guests staying at the neighbouring 4* beachfront Hesperia Playa Dorada / Dreams Lanzarote for up to the next 3 years. There is a booking errata in place for noise and visual disturbance to be expected in certain areas of the hotel. The building site working hours are Monday to Saturday 09:00-19:00.
This huge plot is owned by Hermanos Domínguez, who are also the proprietors of the supermarket chain HiperDino. The Barceló Costa Papagayo when finished, will be the largest hotel in Lanzarote including 720 rooms / 1,440 beds. Occupying 90,000 sq m, the hotel will devote 10,000 sq m of this space to water zones. A premium area has been designed for 130 rooms with exclusive services for these guests. Other plans include a conference centre, theatre, spa, disco, shopping centre and underground parking.
Update Apr 2021: Four floors of construction are now visible from the Avenida de Papagayo. The hotel construction is notable when driving towards the town centre from Las Coloradas area.
Update Jan 2022: The main construction of the new hotel is done and the demolition of the HD Pueblo Marinero and Fund Grube shop was taking place.

Update March 2022: Raising the last sections of the HD Pueblo Marinero hotel and a view of the Costa Papagayo hotel from Dreams Lanzarote.

Update June 2022:

Playa Blanca Harbour
Update Jan 2022: The main construction and landfill at the harbour area in Playa Blanca has been completed and the ferries are departing from the new docking site. However, the access is still very limited in that area whilst the peripheral works are completed. Taxis are restricted to the entrance area. The ticket offices are still in the old area.
Update June 2022: Still restricted access area to passengers only for the new harbour.
Update October 2022: The harbour area is now generally open however the new terminal is still closed.
