At the moment we constantly seem to be referring to the current building work in Playa Blanca when preparing our holiday quotes. With this in mind, we visited this holiday resort in the South of Lanzarote to get an up to date picture of the various construction sites, timelines involved and proximity to the hotels affected.
The extension of the Playa Blanca harbour is the most visible building site, although this only really affects the businesses at C.C. Punta Limones and the bungalows at Club Puerto Chico. It’s also old news, this is the progress so far.
The biggest new project about to start is the development of the large plot situated between the Hesperia Playa Dorada hotel and Marina Rubicón. Initially a project dated 15/02/19 was confirmed with promotor Yudaya S.L. and contractor Hermanos Tavio Santana S.L. to demolish existing structures on Parcela AB1 Plan Parcial Castillo del Águila, with an execution time of 4 months. Next, a project dated 26/02/19 was confirmed with the same promoter and constructor to construct a 4* hotel and commercial zone, with an execution time of 36 months.
This building site is the reason that the HD Pueblo Marinero adults only hotel closed, our understanding is that this abandoned hotel will be demolished and the area redeveloped. This work will affect guests staying at the neighbouring 4* beachfront Hesperia Playa Dorada for up to the next 3 years. There is a booking errata in place for noise and visual disturbance to be expected in certain areas of the hotel. The building site working hours are Monday to Saturday 09:00-19:00.
Update July 2019
Work has commenced on moving the earth required to create the latest 4* hotel in Playa Blanca. This huge plot is owned by Hermanos Domínguez, who are also the proprietors of the supermarket chain HiperDino. The Barceló Costa Papagayo when finished, will be the largest hotel in Lanzarote including 720 rooms / 1,440 beds. Occupying 90,000 sq m, the hotel will devote 10,000 sq m of this space to water zones. A premium area has been designed for 130 rooms with exclusive services for these guests. Other plans include a conference centre, theatre, spa, disco, shopping centre and underground parking.
Whilst we were in the area of Marina Rubicón we visited the 4* Aparthotel Rubimar Suite which had closed for refurbishment. Sadly, there’s no visible sign of any activity or work in progress at this hotel.
The next building work we wanted to check out was the one affecting 3 hotels in the centre of Playa Blanca. Parcela AB16 Urbanizacion Pueblo Marinero Costa Papagayo on Calle Maciot is being developed with a construction of 15 houses and garages. The promotor is Sanny Residencial Playa Blanca S.L. and the name given to the project is Sunny Residencial. The construction license is dated from the 31st July 2018, with an end date of September 2020.
This plot is situated directly opposite the road from the Caybeach Sun, behind the Lanzarote Princess and across the open land from the H10 White Suites. All 3 hotels have a booking errata in place for some noise disturbance, plus with the Princess and Caybeach there is also some visual disturbance. Ereza Villas Brisa Marina and Villas Nohara are also situated in this area.
Finally we went to view the progress on the new 5* hotel being constructed on Parcela AB10 Castillo del Águila situated on Calle La Cómoda, by the Hotel THe Volcán Lanzarote. The main construction has been completed on this project by promotor Costamar S.L. which is valued at just under €6 million euros. This frontline hotel will have views to the Castillo del Águila, Fuerteventura and beaches of Papagayo.
