When I asked Mike what he’d like to do on his birthday in Hong Kong, there was no hesitation in his response which was to have afternoon tea at The Peninsular.
This nostalgic British tradition remains very popular in Hong Kong and although there are many places offering an afternoon tea service, The Lobby at The Peninsular is high on the list of the top ten recommendations.
The Afternoon Tea service is classically British, served on a silver tiered stand, with fine bone china cups designed exclusively by Tiffany & Co for the hotel and Sheffield silverware teapots.
The Lobby Afternoon Tea menu includes:
A selection of finger sandwiches and savoury pastries
Homemade afternoon tea pastries
Freshly baked raisin scones
Clotted cream
Organic strawberry preserve
Choice of teas from the Peninsula tea collection
The price is 658 HK$ for two, plus 220 HK$ to add a glass of Deutz Peninsular brut champagne.
The Peninsular Tea Collection includes classics of Assam, Darjeeling, Earl Grey & their own breakfast blend. There was a fabulous array of flavoured, organic and herbal teas too.
Each of the tiers were delicate and delicious, even the cucumber sandwiches! However nothing could detract from the warm signature scones, served with clotted cream and strawberry jam.
We loved the elegant surroundings of The Lobby, the dress code is smart casual and entertainment was provided in the background by the Lobby Strings perched up on the balcony.
Afternoon tea at The Lobby in The peninsular is an extremely pleasant way to while away an hour or two in Kowloon.
