Normally when we fly to Madrid we head straight for the centre via the Metro, this time, as we were flying out again the next day, we needed an airport hotel.
The Hilton Madrid Airport is only a few minutes drive away and they offer complimentary minibus transfers, every 20 minutes.
The hotel has 284 rooms and suites, including guest rooms, suites and executive rooms which are situated on the upper floors. We booked a standard guest room which was spacious with 37m2 and fully equipped including kettle with tea and coffee facilities, ironing board & iron, hairdryer and a flat screen TV with movies on demand and English channels (BBC & ITV).
The ensuite is of a modern glass design with separate bath and shower cubicle. The room has a floor to ceiling window, our view was of a shopping centre across the busy main road with a huge Primark sign illuminating the building.
Although contemporary decor, the furnishings are comfortable, the king sized bed had an abundance of pillows, there was a chair and footstool perfect for lounging in, and a smart desk to work from. As Hilton Honors members we had free WiFi which was easy to access and fast from all of our devices.
We enjoyed a drink at the Ferrum Bar situated in the lobby, where there was a choice of seating and a living fireplace. Open from 11:00 to 01:00.
Breakfast is served at the Plaza Restaurant, a large open area in the centre of the tower. The cooked breakfast was only just warm, which was a disappointment. However the continental options were delicious. For coffee connoisseurs, don’t take the coffee offered on arrival by the waiting staff, head for the Lavazza capsule machine on the back wall. Open 06:00 to 10:30 on weekdays and half an hour later on weekends.
The hotel has a gym and pool available free to guests on the first floor.
There is a shuttle service to Madrid centre three times in the morning, which has to be reserved in advance. The airport shuttle has a scheduled service from 05:00 to 15:05 outside these times the front desk can organise the bus for you.
In summary, we liked this hotel and would stay here again, it’s convenient and comfortable, the only disappointment was the hot breakfast service.
