California is classed as Zika free and it’s a fantastic American state to explore, so we’d suggest that you don’t limit yourselves to just one place. We can tailor make packages to include your cities of choice with internal flights, or a fly drive to experience the iconic Pacific Coast Highway.

The two types of Aedes mosquito that can transmit the Zika virus to people, is not native to California Including the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes (yellow fever mosquitoes) or Aedes albopictus mosquitoes (Asian tiger mosquitoes). To date there has been no local mosquito-borne transmission of Zika virus in California.

San Diego is the closest beach destination in California to the Mexican border, where you can enjoy average annual temperatures of 18-24 degrees °C.  San Diego has Spanish roots, a thriving nightlife scene can be found in the Gaslamp Quarter and fabulous gastronomy can be found in the chic neighbourhood of Little Italy. With 70 miles of coastline there’s a choice of beaches for everyone, check out the affluent area of La Jolla for a sheltered beach, or trek to Black’s beach for surf and naturism.

Los Angeles attracted the movie makers due to the fantastic year round climate found in this destination, you can expect more than 300 days of sunshine a year. Santa Monica is one of the National Graphic’s top 10 beaches, and Muscle Beach is an easy stroll from Santa Monica Pier fairground. Visit the theme parks of Disneyland or Universal Studios, or shop to you drop on Rodeo Drive.

For couples who are foodies Santa Barbara is an excellent location. The Funk Zone is an area of converted warehouses and buildings, stretching back from the ocean, offering a contemporary collection of tasting rooms, restaurants, vintage shops and art galleries. The Urban Wine Trail connects over 20 wineries with tasting rooms to sample the world class wines from the Santa Barbara region. It’s not just food, this destination has beautiful South facing beaches which are a haven for seals, sea lions and pelicans which you can observe from Stearns Wharf (pier).

San Francisco Zika Free California

If a city vibe is more your thing, how about San Francisco, where you can shop in Union Square, cycle across the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, take a boat trip from Fishermen’s Wharf to Alcatraz, meet the sea lion residents at Pier 39, check out the 31.5% gradient on Filbert Street or the wonky street of Lombard and catch one of the historic cable cars.

We’ve highlighted 5 cities in California which are Zika free, however this destination is considered the most diverse state in America.
