CTO Caribbean Roadshow in Chester

The main reason for my work trip to the UK was to attend the CTO Caribbean Roadshow event in Chester, having never been to the Caribbean I was keen to learn more about the differences between the different islands, and meet the tourism board representatives face to face. The event was held at Chester Racecourse, the room had been set up with individual tables and representatives from the Caribbean Tourist Organisation, airlines, tour operators and resort hotels. I tagged along…

Selling Travel JA Resorts & Hotels event in Newcastle

My decision to travel 170 miles up North from Cheshire to Newcastle was a last minute one, having applied for a place on the Selling Travel / JA Resorts event at the Malmaison Hotel in the Quayside area, my confirmation came through the day before. The event hotel was fully booked, so I stayed at the Ramada Encore hotel, it was clean, basic and fairly comfortable for an overnight. The important factor was location & overnight parking, it was only…

Hilton London Heathrow Airport

We needed a hotel for an overnight stay at London Heathrow Airport on our journey from Lanzarote to Cape Town. The obvious choice was the Hilton London Heathrow as we were flying out of T4 and this hotel, is the only one with direct access to terminal 4. The Hilton London Heathrow hotel is accessed via a tunnel walkway from departures in T4. It takes around 6 minutes to walk from the airport via the covered footpath to the hotel,…

Decent Internet While Travelling

For us, maintaining a decent internet connection while travelling, is business critical. Not only do we have to continue to answer emails and run our business, but we also need to be uploading images and video of our travels all the time. Most hotels these days offer Wifi, but it’s not reliable, and the upload speed is usually appalling. Using hotel Wifi also means we’re out of touch when travelling between them or just out and about. Data roaming and…

Premier Inn Gatwick Review

We route into and out of Gatwick several times a year, and the flights often involve an overnight stay. We started using the Premier Inn there a few years ago, and the hotel has delivered a consistent service for us during at least 25 visits over the last few years. One of my pre-requisites for an airport hotel is that it must be directly accessible from the airport, rather than requiring a bus trip – I don’t like being at…

Changing Currency In Morocco

The currency in Morocco is the Dirham. At the time of writing 100 Dirham is worth about €10. Notes are available in 200, 100, 50 and 20 Dirhams. What’s unusual about the Dirham is that it’s a “closed” currency, so you can’t just pop into your local travel agency or bank and change money for a trip to Morocco. You can only buy and sell Dirhams in country. On arrival at any of the airports in Morocco, you will see…
