We like staying in boutique hotels where we can, The Venice Times is a good example of why we feel this way.

The Venice Times is tucked away down an alley by the Ponte degli Scalzi bridge. Decorated in a contemporary style this hotel has a total of 30 elegant and modern styled rooms, over 4 floors with one small lift.

We were warmly greeted on arrival, this friendly and professional approach was continued throughout our stay by all staff. After a full day of travelling due to interconnecting flights it was wonderful to enter our room to find a beautifully air conditioned sanctuary, something we regularly struggle with on our travels. Here the air conditioning stays on when you leave the room, you simply set the temperature to your liking. We mentioned our gratitude to Eduardo on reception, he explained that Venice normally has a high humidity (70-80%) so they like to have the rooms cool and dry for the comfort of their guests.

We had booked a classic room for 2 nights, with a request for a high floor and a king sized bed preference. To our delight the room allocated was 303, situated on the third floor with twin patio doors opening up to a small balcony overlooking the front of the hotel. The lift has a maximum limit of 3 people, there’s also a beautiful staircase.

Room 303 at The Venice Times is a room type between classic and superior (due to the balcony). You enter with an electronic key card which is inserted into the wall by the door. There’s a good sized wardrobe set into the alcove directly on the left, with one bottom drawer. I liked the grey decor which was a mix of textured and flock walls with a studded blue headboard backdrop to the large king size bed. Talking of the bed, it’s super comfortable with a mattress topper, luxury white linen, a thin duvet, two pillows each plus a decorative cushion. We slept extremely well, with the air conditioning set to 18 degrees and the black out curtains closed. The items available the room’s mini bar on arrival are courtesy of the hotel, any top ups by request are chargeable, there was a bottle of water each,  a can of coke and a pineapple juice. There’s also a kettle with tea and coffee provisions. Sadly the only English language channel on the TV was CNN news, although we only have it on for background noise. Through a sliding mirrored door is the bathroom, the sink in the middle divides the toilet (with another sliding door) and a walk in rain shower. Shower gel, shampoo is provided in the shower, with hand & body cream by the sink in the way of toiletries, plus a bar of soap. A plug in hairdryer is also provided. Towels were of a good size and quality. For our short 2 night stay we informed reception that we didn’t require housekeeping.  Additionally there is a do not disturb button on the room card holder which shows a discreet red symbol outside in the corridor.

Breakfast is served in the Manuzio Lounge on the ground floor, there are two dining rooms and an alfresco terrace. The service was exceptional, we were brought lovely cappuccinos each morning by our waitress whilst we enjoyed a continental breakfast – the hard boiled eggs are worthy of a mention! Scrambled eggs, sausage & bacon were available as hot dishes. The lounge is also a bar, however we didn’t use this service during our time at the hotel.

Situated 700m from the parking at Piazzale Roma it’s a short stroll away, once you have negotiated the steps on the Ponte della Costituzione pedestrian bridge (no ramp). If you arrive in the daytime there are porters that can be hired to help with your hold cases. If arriving by train there isn’t a bridge between the station and the 250m to the hotel. The Alilaguna water bus Linea Blu connects Marco Polo Airport with Stazione di Venezia Santa Lucia train station, which avoids the need to lug your cases over a bridge.

We used the hotel’s concierge service to book a meet and greet private transfer on arrival at Marco Polo airport. Our driver was waiting despite our flight delay, the luxury mini van was cool & comfortable.  This was €55 payable to the driver. We booked the porter service and a private transfer to our cruise ship in advance of check out. The porter service was €5 paid to reception and €10 to the porter on the day (for 2 hold cases).

City tax €9 per night.
