Passport applications are set to become more expensive under new Government proposals.
The Home Office has announced that it wants to increase the cost of passports and if signed off by Parliament, this will come into force on March 27th 2018.
The new proposal will see online applications becoming cheaper than postal applications for the first time.
A standard adult passport or renewal currently costs £72.50, regardless of how the application is made and this fee will rise to £75.50 for online applications and £85 for postal applications.
Charges for children’s passports will go up from £46 to £49 online and £58.50 for postal applications.
You can renew your passport at any time, but you’ll have to be quick to renew before March 27th 2018!
If your current passport expires before December 27th 2018, it might be worth checking your renewal date and renewing in the next few weeks. Any time left on your old passport will be transferred to your new one, up to a maximum of 9 months.
The fee’s for fast tracking will also increase. The 1 day premium service is rising from £128 to £177 for a standard adult passport and the 1 week fast-track service is rising from £103 to £142 for a standard adult passport.
