As travel agents, we explore all the options for our clients to make sure they get the best possible price for their holiday. Surprisingly, that sometimes means taking indirect flights – for example, if you’re travelling to The Canary Islands for your summer holiday, it can be cheaper to drop into Madrid or Barcelona on the way out or back than to take a direct flight. It sounds odd, but it’s true and it’s something we arrange for clients all the time.

You can simply take the saving and enjoy wandering around the airport waiting for your onward flight, but in many cases, we’ve used that saving to cover the cost of a hotel in the respective city. So you can start or end your holiday with a day and night of exploring somewhere new, doing some shopping and trying out some fantastic gastronomy, and in many cases, it won’t cost you a penny!

This scenario also works by using different airports to save money. We recently arranged a trip to Las Vegas from London. We found that the flight prices from Glasgow were much cheaper to Vegas than from London, so we included shuttle flights to Glasgow and two nights in a hotel there at the end of the trip. It didn’t cost any more than the planned trip and they had the fun of two extra flights and a cracking two night city break!

So next time you’re planning a holiday, let us know, and we’ll check all the options for you. If we find you a better indirect option, we’ll let you know, and all you have to do is choose to take the saving, or add something special to your holiday!
